December 2022

December Recap!

2022 ended with a bang at Cultivate Initiatives. It’s so rewarding to see our community come together to make this all possible. Check out some of our favorite highlights from December:

Village Update

The Menlo Park Safe Rest Village has officially been open for its first month! Neighbors are now safely sheltered and the village is nearly to its capacity of 50 villagers. Peer advocates, case workers, housing specialists, nursing students, and more are all coming together to provide support for and with the villagers.

Emergency Warming Shelter

From December 21st - 24th, we provided respite from the devastating cold to 242 neighbors, with 50 staying each night.
Special thanks to our team, volunteers, Multnomah County and Rockwood CDC for this massive effort!

Holiday Giving Results!

Last month, we invited you to raise $15,000 to provide meals and coffee for our unhoused neighbors re-entering the workforce. You all went above and beyond, donating $17,355 throughout December! This means that our Interns will have daily meals and coffee to fuel their workforce development throughout 2023. Whether you helped by donating or spreading the word, you are part of this accomplishment. We are so grateful to you for making this possible.

“Everybody Likes Clean”

Our Community Beautification team removed 67,000 lbs this month! Check out this story from Metro about our partnership to make more workforce development and compassionate garbage removal possible.

How can you join us in 2023?

Become a monthly donor.

We want to remind you that the Americas Foundation is matching donations throughout this year. That means if you become a monthly donor for 6 months, they will double those donations, meaning you effectively just supported CI for a whole year!

Volunteer your skills.

Are you a master at backing up a trailer and want to teach your skills? Maybe you’re a plumber, mechanic, or electrician? Or are you proficient in another trade? Our work relies on trucks, trailers, and other infrastructure that need continual maintenance. We’d love for you to volunteer your skills to keep these services running smoothly.
